Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam Hosts “Network & Chill” Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month With Special Guest Amara La Negra

By Dawn Boothe

On Friday, October 2, 2026, City of Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam hosted Network and Chill at Juanas Latin Sports Bar, a monthly initiative centered on building meaningful connections and relationships within the community. This month’s event was held in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, featuring entertainer Amara La Negra as the guest speaker.

The evening brought together local business owners, professionals, and residents for an atmosphere filled with music, food, conversation, and networking. Attendees shared their experiences, advice, and perspectives on entrepreneurship, success, and the challenges of building a business in today’s rapidly changing workforce.

In South Florida, where Black and Latino cultures intersect and shape the region’s identity, events like Network and Chill provide an opportunity for people from different backgrounds to connect while sharing their passions and the businesses they are building to help strengthen their communities.

Abebe Lewis, entrepreneur and founder of Abebe Marketing, reflected on the cultural diversity of South Florida, saying, “We’re lucky to grow up in South Florida here and just be able to know all the cultures when it comes to food and everything.” Lewis also praised Messam’s efforts to create community-centered events, adding, “Wayne Messam does a great job at these events.”

Guest speaker Amara La Negra, a Miami-born singer, television personality, and entertainer known for her music and advocacy for Afro-Latina representation, encouraged attendees to draw inspiration from her journey and personal experiences.

“I hope that people feel inspired by my story. I hope they feel inspired by my personal experience,” La Negra said.

The event also created space for conversations about navigating success, remaining transparent, and adapting as artificial intelligence continues to change the workforce and business landscape.

Mayor Messam hopes to continue Network and Chill on the first Friday of every month, creating a consistent space for networking, connection, and community impact.
