Job Title: Part-Time Podcast Producer

Show: Can We Talk Podcast (Hy-Lo News)
Compensation: $1,000/month (Contracted, Remote)
Estimated Hours: 10–12 hours/week (at least one week a month the work load will be less than 10 hours)
Location: Remote (South Florida knowledge is a strong plus)
Start Date: June 1, 2025
First Produced Show: June 12, 2025
Show Airs: Thursdays at 5:30 PM ET (attendance not mandatory)

Hy-Lo News is a Black-owned digital news platform that amplifies the voices of Black and Brown Millennials in South Florida. Our weekly Can We Talk Podcast dives into trending news, local politics, and cultural commentary that matters to our community.

Position Summary:
We’re looking for a detail-oriented and politically savvy Podcast Producer to join our team. The producer will help power our weekly news show by curating engaging topics, managing show logistics, and ensuring timely delivery of production materials. This is a part-time, contracted position ideal for someone with a strong understanding of government, investigative reporting skills, and a passion for community-driven journalism.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct weekly research and reporting for show segments, focusing on local, state, and national politics and trending social issues

Watch and analyze government meetings and agendas to extract timely and compelling topics

Develop and update the weekly Run of Show document, ensuring it’s ready by Thursday at 7:00 AM ET for review by host Janéy Tate

Attend weekly Hy-Lo News editorial meetings to align show content with current events and newsroom priorities

Coordinate with the Virtual Assistant to schedule and confirm show guests

Gather and organize relevant links, visual graphics, and multimedia assets to serve as visual aids during the show

Track ongoing story developments and provide follow-up updates for previously discussed topics

Pitch and pursue deeper, investigative reporting topics for long-form podcast segments

Note: While the show airs live on Thursdays at 5:30 PM ET, the producer is not required to attend the live broadcast.


Qualifications:

Strong grasp of local government and political structures in South Florida, the state of Florida, and U.S. politics

Demonstrated ability to track, analyze, and report on complex issues

Experience reading public meeting agendas and identifying key items for reporting

Sharp editorial judgment and storytelling instincts

Ability to manage time independently and meet consistent weekly deadlines

Collaborative attitude and comfort working with a small, passionate media team

Bonus: Journalism background and/or previous podcast production experience.
