Hy-Lo News Partners with Co-Space to Host Candidate Forum Featuring Miami Gardens and School Board District 1 Candidates

Hy-Lo News is bringing its Politics & Chill community conversation series back to Miami Gardens on Wednesday, Oct. 14, giving residents an opportunity to hear directly from candidates running for Miami Gardens City Council Seat 4 and Miami-Dade County School Board District 1 ahead of early voting. This will mark the first time Hy-Lo News will host a candidate forum live and on location.

The event, presented by Hy-Lo News in partnership with Co-Space, will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Co-Space Miami Gardens, located at 17161 NW 27th Ave. The community-centered venue is owned by local entrepreneur Joy St. Clair, who has partnered with Hy-Lo News to provide a space for residents to gather, connect and discuss issues impacting their neighborhoods. The event will also be live streamed on Hy-Lo News’ YouTube and Facebook pages for those who can attend in person.

Hy-Lo News founder and CEO Janey Tate will moderate the live conversation alongside longtime South Florida radio personality Papa Keith, co-host of the That Part Podcast.

The forum will give candidates an opportunity to share their plans for office, discuss community concerns and answer questions directly from residents. From education and youth development to public safety, housing and economic opportunities, the goal is to give voters a better understanding of where candidates stand on issues that impact their everyday lives.

The forum will focus on two important local races in the Nov. 3 General Election, giving residents an opportunity to hear from candidates seeking to represent their communities at City Hall and on the Miami-Dade County School Board.

In the Miami Gardens City Council Seat 4 race, candidates Roderick “Rod” Mack and Mykita Cherry-Prime are competing for the opportunity to represent residents and help shape decisions affecting the city’s future.

In the Miami-Dade County School Board District 1 race, candidates Katrina Wilson and Linda Cothiere are competing for a seat on the board responsible for overseeing policies, budgets and educational priorities for Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

All four candidates have confirmed their participation in the Politics & Chill forum, where they’ll discuss their platforms, address community concerns and answer questions directly from residents ahead of early voting. The event will give voters an opportunity to compare the candidates’ positions and make informed decisions before heading to the polls.

Politics & Chill was created to make political conversations more accessible, engaging and relatable to everyday South Floridians. Rather than a traditional political forum, the series brings together residents, community leaders and local voices in a relaxed environment where people can ask questions, exchange ideas and become more informed about the decisions being made in their communities.

The series launched earlier this year after Tate shared an idea on social media about creating a space where residents could come together, enjoy food and music, and have honest conversations about politics without the usual political formalities.

The response from the community helped turn that idea into a live event series focused on civic engagement and giving residents a seat at the table.

For this upcoming edition, candidates will be part of the conversation, allowing residents to hear their positions firsthand before heading to the polls.

Admission is free, and refreshments will be provided. Seating is limited, and residents are encouraged to arrive early.

The event will take place Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 6:30 p.m. at Co-Space Miami Gardens, 17161 NW 27th Ave., Miami Gardens.

Hy-Lo News encourages residents to come ready with questions and take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the people seeking to represent them.
