Passionate Care Services brought families, caregivers and community leaders together in Boca Raton on Sept. 23 for its second annual Sneaker Ball, a celebration highlighting inclusion, friendship and the accomplishments of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and neurodiverse disorders.
Boca Raton Mayor Andy Thomson joined the event, spending time with individuals and families connected to the organization.
A highlight of the celebration was the crowning of this year’s Sneaker Ball King and Queen. Kahlil Lightbourne was named King, while Sherly Jean was named Queen. The pair received their sashes as friends, family members and Passionate Care staff cheered them on.
“This is so much more than a celebration,” Passionate Care Services Director Michelle Scott said in a press statement. “The people we serve deserve opportunities to build friendships, celebrate their accomplishments, and experience moments that make them feel special.”
Passionate Care Services operates Adult Day Training programs designed to help individuals develop practical skills, build confidence and participate more fully in their communities. Programming includes cooking, computer training, music, arts and crafts, physical exercise and community-based activities.
The organization’s Bloom Program gives participants an opportunity to learn about agriculture by growing grains and other crops. Some of the produce is sold in local grocery stores, connecting participants’ work to the broader community while providing hands-on lessons in responsibility and self-sufficiency.
Participants also take part in community outings, shopping trips and volunteer opportunities that allow them to practice everyday skills and build social connections.
The Sneaker Ball brought those themes into a celebration, with attendees dressing up, showing off their favorite sneakers and enjoying music, food and games.
Passionate Care Services has locations in Boca Raton and West Palm Beach and provides programs and activities focused on learning, social connection and community inclusion.
