The Blue and Gold just got a historic upgrade on Florida roads, and the Miami Northwestern Senior High community is already celebrating the major milestone.
Governor Ron DeSantis recently signed a comprehensive specialty license plate bill into law, officially authorizing a brand-new specialty tag for the Miami Northwestern Senior High Alumni Association, according to state legislative records reported by CBS12 News.
The new measure expands Florida’s popular specialty plate program to include a new round of designs honoring local high schools, colleges, and organizations. Under the new law, Miami Northwestern will become one of the first high schools in the state to receive an official state-issued specialty plate.
For the historic Liberty City institution and its massive, multi-generational alumni network, the milestone represents far more than a standard piece of aluminum. Local advocates say the tag symbolizes the deep-rooted pride, legacy, and excellence of generations of Bulls who have continuously shaped the culture, politics, and economy of South Florida and beyond.
The new plate also serves a dual purpose as a rolling fundraiser. A portion of the proceeds from every specialty tag sold will go directly toward funding new educational opportunities, campus resources, and scholarships to benefit future generations of Miami Northwestern students.
Association leadership extended appreciation to the community organizers, legislators, and alumni whose dedication and advocacy brought the years-long vision to reality.
That community dedication was on full display following the announcement, as alumni and supporters quickly took to the Miami Northwestern Senior High Facebook Page to celebrate the historic achievement.
“This is amazing news for the Miami Northwestern community,” alumnus Eugene Farrow shared online under the post. “I’m beyond thrilled to see the dedication and hard work paying off. The specialty license plate is just the beginning!”
Other graduates echoed the sentiment, reflecting on the deep cultural impact of the school.
“Team Bulls pride forever, what an honor to see our school represented like this,” alumna Joann Johnson Renrick noted on Facebook. “Once a Bull, always a bull!”
Alumnus Paul Lewis summarized the collective feeling of the community, stating, “Always proud to be a Miami Northwestern Bull. We change the world around us to be a better place.”
While celebrations are underway from the Class of 1968 to the Class of 1985 and beyond, local drivers are already eager to get their hands on the new design. Commenters flooded the association’s pages asking exactly when the tags will be ready for sale, with some holding out hope for a sleek black plate option and out-of-state alumni wishing they could sport the tag on Georgia roads.
Bulls fans will have to wait just a bit longer before hitting the road with their new look. Under Florida law, the alumni association must submit the official artwork to the state, after which the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles will establish a pre-sale voucher process. The school must secure 3,000 pre-orders within a two-year period before the state begins formal production of the plates.
Details regarding the upcoming state-mandated pre-sale period and instructions on how local drivers can secure their vouchers are expected to be released by the alumni association in the coming weeks.
