Arts education nonprofit Arts Access Miami is expanding into the Central District of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, a move organizers say will increase access to arts programming for thousands of students across Miami-Dade County.
The expansion will allow Arts Access Miami to serve students in Brownsville, Allapattah, Liberty City, West Little River and Gladeview during the 2026-2027 school year. With the addition of the Central District, the organization says it will now reach more than 17,000 students countywide.
The milestone was celebrated Monday, May 18, during a launch event at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center. Students from kindergarten through high school performed music and dance pieces as part of the program.
Jose L. Dotres, superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, was honored during the event with the inaugural Arts Champion Award for his support of expanding arts education access across the district. Other attendees included Brenda Swain and Eileen Higgins, along with school principals, teachers and education leaders from across Miami-Dade County.
Launched initially in Miami Gardens in 2020, Arts Access Miami later expanded into North Dade and South Dade feeder patterns. According to organizers, the addition of the Central region marks the third of five planned regional alliances that together will form a unified, countywide arts education system across Miami-Dade County by 2030.
