7th Annual Soup and Champagne All White Affair to Celebrate Haitian Independence Day in North Miami

A signature New Year’s Day celebration honoring Haitian history and culture is set to return to North Miami as the Soup and Champagne All White Affair marks its seventh year on Jan. 1, 2026.

The annual event, centered around Haiti’s Independence Day, will take place at NoMi Village, 12351 NW 7th Ave., bringing together community members for an evening that blends cultural tradition, music and formal celebration. Organizers describe the gathering as both a festive kickoff to the new year and a tribute to Haiti’s legacy of freedom.

At the heart of the celebration is Soup Joumou, the traditional pumpkin soup that has become a symbol of Haitian independence. On Jan. 1, 1804, Haiti became the world’s first Black republic after a successful slave revolt led by Jean-Jacques Dessalines. During French colonization, Soup Joumou was reserved for white slaveholders and forbidden to enslaved people. Following independence, Haitians reclaimed the dish, making it a staple of New Year’s Day and a lasting emblem of liberation and national pride.

“We are thrilled to bring the community together for the seventh year to honor the legacy of Haitian Independence,” said Jones Pierre, co-founder of the event. “This is more than just a party. It’s a powerful celebration of our resilience and heritage. By sharing Soup Joumou, we honor the victory of 1804 and start the year with collective pride and good fortune.”

The all-white affair invites guests to dress in white, a color often associated with peace, unity and renewal. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the main show beginning at 9 p.m.

This year’s celebration will feature a live performance in North Miami by Haitian artist Rutshelle Guillaume, alongside Alan Cavé. The event will also include celebrity hosts Tico Armand and Mecca, also known as Grimo, a live band, and DJ sets by Whiskey Chic and Teddy Mix.

Organizers say attendees typically include business owners, professionals, community leaders and families, creating a multigenerational space that highlights Haitian music, food, art and cultural pride.

The event is presented by Jones Pierre and Morhanges “Haitian Poohbear,” in collaboration with the City of North Miami and Vice Mayor Kassandra Timothe.
