Honoring The Life of Danny Agnew| Entrepreneur, Activist & Visionary! (1989-2023)

On June 15th, the Miami Community lost a great entrepreneur, a giving philanthropist, a loving activist for Black Equity and Economics, and a true visionary for Black Freedom– Danny Agnew. It’s hard for me to write anything right now so please forgive me if this rambles on. All I can really say is I’m sending positive vibes and prayers and strength to Phil, Zay, Munch, Valencia, J. Howard, Sherina, Bert, and the entire Roots Collective. To the entire Agnew Family, all of Danny’s friends and loved ones and ANYONE who’s had the blessed pleasure of knowing him for however long, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I’d like to send a very special heartfelt THANK YOU to DANNY for always supporting Hy-Lo News, for championing us, seeing us as a valued news source, for wanting to work with us, and to him and Zay for always saying yes any time I asked for an interview. Thank you Munch for extending your ROOTS COLLECTIVE family to me which allowed me to meet Danny. Yall boys accepted me and took me in, never judging me, never making me feel like an outsider. When I met I yall, I truly needed a tribe of Black MEN to show me that decency, honor, and respect still existed. I will forever love you all for that. I will always treasure our late nights and long conversations before and after recording the Trappin’ Ain’t Dead Podcast at the Roots Printing Showroom in Liberty City. I can picture it now, us talking sht, laughing, discussing a range of topics from politics to music to entrepreneurship and anything in between, and Danny moving about the shop working on jobs but still being fully engaged in the conversation. It was a moment in time I’ll remember forever and love forever. I thought you guys were so cool, I still do, and no shade lol but yall know I really thought Danny was the fckin coolest of you all.

When I have the capacity and my tears aren’t falling as much, I will write thee Danny Agnew a befitting obituary article in ONLY a way that Black-owned media can, in only a way that Hy-Lo News can.

Until then, Just know my love is with you all.

REST IN ETERNAL POWER KING DANNY AGNEW. Job well done! Your Legacy is CEMENTED and will live on through everyone you’ve ever known.

Ase,
Janey Tate
