Who are the men powering Roots Collective?
The Roots Collective is a group of ambitious visionaries dedicated to the economic growth, and social awareness, and self-sufficiency of black & brown communities.
Their organizational ecosystem consists of three for-profit companies which include their printing company Roots Printing, their pro-movement apparel line Roots Clothing, and their events space titled Roots Black House. Each company assists in funding our social programs which include year-round youth programs, a community pantry called the Village FREE(dge) which is spearheaded by Sherina Jones, and their monthly Black and Brown-specific marketplaces.
Roots Collective began as a group comprised of four core individuals which included Danny Agnew, Isaiah Thomas, James Mungin II, and Dantrail Felton. Today Agnew, Thomas, and Mungin continue doing the work for the collective’s mission. Each member of this collective has been working diligently on the ground in either Liberty City Miami, Overtown, Opa Locka, Miami Gardens, or Little Haiti. Their group was created because they identified stark similarities consistent with state violence being perpetrated in each of the fore-mentioned communities. Their mission is to use their community support, organizational connections, and political pull to create spaces where communities and organizations collide head-on.
Its mission since its founding in 2013 has been to invest in our communities so they can build themselves.
