Dade County Deltas, Hy-Lo News Team Up for “Dollars, Decisions & Democracy” Town Hall To Breakdown the Amendment 3 Ballot Item

With the November election just weeks away, the Dade County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is teaming up with Hy-Lo News for a virtual conversation aimed at helping South Florida voters understand how decisions on the ballot could impact their homes, money and communities.

“Dollars, Decisions & Democracy” will take place Monday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. and will stream live on Hy-Lo News’ Facebook and YouTube pages. The Social Action event will focus on Amendment 3, property taxes and voting, giving residents an opportunity to learn more about issues they may encounter as they prepare to cast their ballots.

Hy-Lo News Founder and CEO Janey Tate will moderate the conversation, which will feature Florida Sen. Shevrin D. Jones, State Rep. Felicia Robinson and attorney Yolanda “Cash” Jackson.

The discussion is centered around a simple message: “Know the issues. Understand the impact. Be an informed participant in your community.”

For organizers, the event is also about connecting some of the larger political conversations happening across Florida to the everyday decisions South Floridians are making about their families, finances and neighborhoods.

The partnership between the Dade County Alumnae Chapter and Hy-Lo News brings together the sorority’s longstanding focus on social action and civic engagement with Hy-Lo News’ work to make local politics, government and public policy more accessible to South Florida residents.

The town hall comes as voters prepare for the Nov. 3rd General Election and will give viewers a chance to hear directly from state leaders and community experts about issues that could affect their wallets and their communities.

The program will stream live Monday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. on Facebook and YouTube.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a 501(c)(7) organization and does not endorse candidates. According to event organizers, all candidates running for office have been invited to attend.

For Hy-Lo News, the event is part of our continued commitment to working with Divine 9 organizations and to making sure our community doesn’t just vote—we understand what we’re voting on and how those decisions could impact us long after Election Day.
