The Premier Celebration of HBCU Bands, Culture, and Community Returns January 15–17, 2027
The Pepsi National Battle of the Bands is returning to The Palm Beaches for Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend in 2027, bringing HBCU marching band performances, cultural programming and community events back to South Florida.
The three-day celebration is scheduled for Jan. 15–17, 2027, following the success of the inaugural event in The Palm Beaches.
The weekend will feature performances from HBCU marching bands, educational programming, community engagement initiatives, fan experiences and destination activities highlighting HBCU culture and the region.
Organizers say the return is part of the National Battle of the Bands’ continued efforts to create opportunities to celebrate HBCU excellence while contributing to the economic and cultural impact of host communities.
“Returning to The Palm Beaches for Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend represents an exciting opportunity to continue building on the incredible momentum we created together,” said Derek Webber, executive producer and creator of the National Battle of the Bands, in a press release. “The Palm Beaches embraced our vision from day one, and we’re excited to once again bring fans, alumni, students, and families together for a weekend that celebrates HBCU culture, honors Dr. King’s legacy, and showcases the power of music, arts, and education.”
The event is expected to draw visitors from across the country, with organizers pointing to potential opportunities for local businesses, community organizations and students to participate in the weekend.
George Linley, executive director of the Palm Beach County Sports Commission, said the event demonstrates the region’s ability to host large-scale events beyond traditional sporting competitions.
“The National Battle of the Bands showcases the same energy, discipline, and competitive spirit we see across the sporting events we host,” Linley said in a press statement. “It’s a reminder of how much our world-class venues and facilities can deliver for events far beyond traditional athletics.”
The 2027 celebration also comes after what Palm Beach County officials described as a strong economic and cultural showing during the inaugural event.
“Last year, we saw firsthand what this event means for our community. Thousands of visitors filled our hotels and restaurants and experienced incredible talent, tradition, and pride right here in The Palm Beaches,” said Emanuel Perry, executive director of the Palm Beach County Tourist Development Council, in a press release.
Perry added that the event provides a platform to celebrate culture and inspire young people while contributing to the local economy.
Additional details about participating bands, weekend programming, tickets, hotel packages and special events are expected to be announced in the coming months.
