The Source is expanding access to career development and technology education across South Florida through a new Google Career Certificate scholarship opportunity for its growing Tech Tuesdays community.
Expected to launch in the coming months, the initiative will provide professionals and young adults with opportunities to build new skills, advance their careers and prepare for in-demand fields. While placing particular emphasis on reaching minority and historically underserved communities, the opportunity is designed to be inclusive and accessible to individuals from all backgrounds.
Held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Center for Black Innovation in Miami’s historic Overtown neighborhood, Tech Tuesdays was created by The Source to make technology, entrepreneurship, professional development and meaningful industry connections more accessible.
“Tech Tuesdays have always been about more than networking. It’s about creating access,” said Ted Lucas, co-founder of The Source, in a press release. “We want to make sure minority communities and people who have historically been underrepresented in these spaces know that these opportunities are available to them. At the same time, Tech Tuesdays is a community for everyone. Whether you’re looking to advance your career, build new skills or explore what’s next professionally, we want this to be a place where you can access the resources to move forward.”
Grow with Google launched the Google Career Certificates in 2018 to support skilling for in-demand fields. The certificates are available in Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Digital Marketing and E-Commerce, IT Support, Project Management and User Experience (UX) Design. The certificates do not require a degree or experience and can be completed online within 3-6 months of part-time study. More than 400,000 people have graduated from the career certificate program in the U.S. & take out global stat given audience (citation: *Google Internal Data, June 2025)
“This announcement is only the beginning,” said Hilmon Sorey, co-founder of The Source, in a press statement. “Our goal is to make sure these resources reach the people who can truly benefit from them, especially those who may not traditionally have access to opportunities like these.”
