Business owners and employers in South Miami-Dade will have an opportunity this week to connect with workforce development and economic development leaders focused on the region’s growing job market.
CareerSource South Florida, along with the Economic Development Council of South Miami-Dade, the Miami-Dade Beacon Council, the City of Homestead and Miami-Dade County Commissioners Danielle Cohen Higgins and Kionne L. McGhee, will host the South Dade Workforce Employer Engagement Summit Thursday, Aug. 27.
The free event is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to noon at Miami Dade College’s Homestead Campus, 500 College Terrace.
The summit is geared toward businesses and organizations operating in, or looking to expand into, South Miami-Dade’s industrial and commercial sectors. Those industries include aerospace and aviation, light manufacturing, transportation and logistics, construction and skilled trades, and hospitality and tourism.
Organizers say the event will give employers direct access to information about hiring incentives, workforce training programs and other resources designed to help businesses recruit and develop workers.
Employers can learn about programs that may help offset hiring and training costs, including cash-back incentives, training grants and tax credits. The event will also connect businesses with local training programs and workforce partners that can help employers find workers with specialized skills.
Government and economic development officials will also be on hand to discuss workforce planning, hiring support and other resources available to businesses in the region.
For South Dade, where industrial development and new business activity continue to shape the local economy, the summit comes as employers look for ways to build and maintain a skilled workforce.
“The South Dade Workforce Employer Engagement Summit is about putting our region’s employers directly in touch with the resources that help them grow,” Rick Beasley, president and CEO of CareerSource South Florida, said in a statement. “We’re proud to bring that connection to Homestead and support the businesses driving South Dade’s economy forward.”
