Community Still Invited To Share Memories, Photographs, Recollections, And Interviews For Commemorative Book Honoring Georgia Jones-Ayers

The community is still invited to help preserve the life, work, and enduring legacy of Georgia Jones-Ayers, the Miami civic leader and reform advocate whose efforts helped shape alternatives to incarceration and second-chance opportunities for adults, youth, families, and communities across Miami-Dade County. GEORGIA ON OUR MIND: Appreciating a Matriarch of Activism in Miami is slated for an October 2026 release.

Curated by the program she founded, The Alternative Programs, Inc. (TAP), the project will be a gathering place of Ayer’s wisdom, power, and impact. The TAP board is asking community members to join the gathering of stories by sharing photographs, writing a powerful recollection of the woman Georgia Jones-Ayers was, or agreeing to be interviewed as part of the effort to document her life and impact.

The project seeks participation from people who worked with Ms. Ayers, went through The Alternative Programs, Inc., advocated alongside her, served on boards or in civic spaces with her, witnessed her work in the courts or community, or knew her as family, friend, mentor, neighbor, or public servant.

The book will include biographical material, the history and origins of The Alternative Programs, Inc., major organizational milestones, community testimony, archival photographs, and selected personal memories that help future generations understand her voice, her work, and her presence in Miami.

Organizers welcome photographs, written memories, video memories, clippings, programs, letters, awards, and other archival materials for review. The submission deadline has been extended to August 6, 2026. For information, to share materials, or to schedule an interview, call 786-763-1208 or email GeorgiaTAP2026@gmail.com.
