Miami Gardens Wants to Hear From You. Here’s How Residents Can Get Involved This Month

Miami Gardens residents will have two opportunities this month to connect with community leaders, access resources and help shape conversations around public safety through the Scaling Safety Miami Gardens Initiative.

Hosted by the King Carter Youth Foundation in partnership with Scaling Safety and Ummah Futures International, the upcoming events are designed to bring together residents, public safety officials, nonprofit organizations and workforce partners to strengthen neighborhoods and expand access to community services.

The first event, the Miami Gardens Scaling Safety Public Safety Roundtable & Youth Forum, will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex, 3000 NW 199th St.

The public safety roundtable will focus on violence prevention, neighborhood safety and collaborative solutions to improve quality of life in Miami Gardens.

A concurrent Youth Forum will give residents ages 12 to 18 an opportunity to share their experiences, ask questions and provide recommendations directly to community leaders and public safety stakeholders. Youth participants will receive 10 community service hours for attending.

The second event, Walking One Stop, is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 27, at Miami Gardens Apartments, 18457 NW 37th Ave.

The neighborhood outreach initiative will bring community services directly to residents, connecting families with employment assistance, resume support, career counseling, workforce training information, housing resources, health and wellness services, youth and family programs, and additional community referrals.

The South Florida CareerSource Mobile Bus will also be on-site to provide employment services, and attendees are encouraged to bring an updated resume.

In a press statement, Charona R. Lott, director of development for Ummah Futures International, said community engagement is key to creating lasting public safety solutions.

“The voices of our residents, especially our youth, are essential to creating sustainable public safety solutions,” Lott said in the press statement. “These events are about listening, connecting people to resources, and working together to build a stronger Miami Gardens.”

Community organizations, educators, youth-serving agencies, local leaders and residents are encouraged to participate in both events.

For more information about the Walking One Stop initiative, residents can visit the Miami Gardens Apartments leasing office or call 305-625-7762. Youth interested in participating in the July 16 forum can register through the event’s online registration form.
