Art Prevails Project’s ‘Yesterday and Tomorrow’ Comes to Broward Center for Three Performances in July

Darius V. Daughtry’s original production explores grief, healing and the power of community through theater, music and movement.

Broward-based arts organization Art Prevails Project is bringing its newest original production, Yesterday and Tomorrow, to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts later this month, offering audiences an emotional story centered on resilience, healing and hope.

Written and directed by playwright, poet and educator Darius V. Daughtry, Yesterday and Tomorrow follows a family and the community around them as they navigate tragedy and search for meaning in the aftermath of loss. Through a blend of theater, live music and movement, the production explores themes of grief, purpose, perseverance and the strength found in community.

The performances are part of the Broward Center’s AMPLIFY ARTS initiative, which supports South Florida artists and emerging arts organizations.

The show will run during three performances:

  • Friday, July 17, at 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 18, at 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 18, at 7 p.m.

Following each evening performance, audience members will have the opportunity to participate in an Artist Talk with the cast and creative team. Evening ticket holders are also invited to a reception featuring complimentary drinks and light bites.

“Yesterday and Tomorrow explores what happens when life changes in an instant,” Daughtry said in a press statement. “It asks tough questions about loss, purpose and moving forward when our imagined future is gone. It also celebrates community, courage and the possibility of healing in our darkest moments. I hope audiences see themselves in these stories and leave feeling more connected.”

Art Prevails Project has become one of Broward County’s leading cultural arts organizations, creating original productions while providing opportunities for artists through education, employment and professional development.

Kat Brigian Sierra, executive director and CEO of Funding Arts Broward, said the organization’s impact extends well beyond the stage.

“Beyond creating meaningful experiences for audiences, Art Prevails has become a powerful force for artists, offering opportunities for employment, artistic development, education and professional growth,” Sierra said in a press statement. “Darius and his team have built an organization that not only inspires through storytelling but also strengthens the creative workforce in Broward County.”

Broward County Cultural Division Director Phillip Dunlap said the production reflects the role the arts can play in helping communities process difficult experiences.

“Through storytelling, music and movement, Darius Daughtry and the Art Prevails Project continue to create work that inspires reflection, healing and connection, and that demonstrates the power of community-centered art,” Dunlap said in a press statement.

Actor and Project Coordinator Denzel McCausland said audiences can expect a story that highlights the shared nature of grief.

“Loss is never experienced in isolation,” McCausland said in a press statement. “It affects families, friends, neighbors and entire communities in ways both visible and unseen. I hope people leave this production feeling seen, inspired and more connected to one another.”

The production is presented through the Broward Center’s AMPLIFY ARTS initiative, which helps elevate local artists and arts organizations by providing performance opportunities and expanding access to new audiences.

Tickets for Yesterday and Tomorrow are available through the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
