After a two-year hiatus, Girl Power Rocks revived one of its signature fundraising events, Jazz Under the Stars, bringing together community leaders, supporters and music lovers for an evening dedicated to empowering young girls through the arts.
Held under the stars on May 9, the event featured performances by the Girls’ Choir of Miami and headliner Brooklyn Red, whose soulful set capped off a night centered on music, mentorship and community impact. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help expand Girl Power Rocks’ music and arts education initiatives, including the Girls’ Choir of Miami, a year-round program serving “at-promise” girls ages 7 to 17.
Beyond vocal training, the choir provides participants with leadership development and mentorship opportunities designed to build confidence, encourage academic success and foster cultural understanding.
“Jazz Under the Stars represents the power of partnership and purpose,” Girl Power Rocks President and CEO Thema Campbell said in a press statement. “The incredible turnout and energy throughout the evening demonstrated how deeply this community believes in uplifting and investing in our young girls.”
Board Chair Aisha Mannings echoed those sentiments, thanking the organization’s supporters for helping make the event’s return a success.
“The success of Jazz Under the Stars reflects the strength and generosity of our community,” Mannings said in a press statement. “We are deeply grateful to our sponsors, supporters, volunteers and attendees whose contributions made this evening possible.”
The event was hosted by community leaders Eric Knowles, Dexter Bridgeman and Bill Diggs, with support from sponsors and partners including the Davis Family Foundation, City National Bank, the Dade County Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, and the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau.
