District 1 students were celebrated for their academic achievement, leadership and character during the annual District 1 Student of the Year Awards Luncheon hosted by Steve Gallon III.
The event brought together students, parents, educators, community leaders and community partners to recognize students who have excelled both inside and outside of the classroom.
“These students represent the epitome of being respectful, responsible, righteous, and ready to learn,” Gallon said in a press statement. “Today, we proudly celebrate the best and brightest of District 1 and acknowledge the dedication and support of their families, teachers, and school communities.”
As part of the celebration, five student essay winners each received $300 awards recognizing their writing skills and academic accomplishments.
In a social media post, Gallon also thanked several community leaders and organizations that helped support the luncheon, including Katrina Baskin, Bishop Smith of Grace Cathedral, Arthur Jackson III of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Miami Gardens and Robin Starks.
The luncheon concluded with congratulations to all 2026 District 1 Students of the Year, highlighting their hard work, perseverance and commitment to excellence throughout the school year.
