Miami-Dade Families to Receive Free Resources, Health Services at MAU Foundation Family Fun Day on April 25

A MAU Foundation community event aimed at tackling poverty and food insecurity will bring hundreds of families together this weekend for a day of free resources, services and support.

The organization is hosting a large-scale Family Fun Day and multi-agency resource event on Saturday, April 25, at Jesse J. McCrary Elementary School, in partnership with Citrus Family Care Network and several community groups.

The event will provide essential items such as food, clothing and household goods, along with on-site services including free medical screenings through a mobile health unit, mental health and youth services, workforce and educational resources, re-entry support programs and access to government services like a mobile DMV unit.

Organizers say the event is designed to meet families where they are by bringing multiple forms of support into one centralized location.

In addition to direct services, the event will highlight student-led community initiatives. A student from John A. Ferguson Senior High School will present her “Be the Reason” project, a Silver Knight initiative focused on mental health awareness through handwritten messages. The effort includes personalized cards, some written in Haitian Creole, which will be distributed alongside fresh flowers to families in attendance.

Another student participant, a local Girl Scout, will distribute more than 3,000 pairs of socks she independently collected for families in need.

Organizers say supporting youth leadership and community service is a key part of the foundation’s mission, and this event provides a platform for students to make a direct impact.

Participating organizations include Florida Blue, Citrus Health Network, New Horizons Community Mental Health Center, D. A. Dorsey Technical College and PATH, among others working directly within Miami-Dade County.

“The MAU Foundation was built on the belief that no individual or family should go without their basic needs,” an event organizer shared with Hy-Lo News. “What makes this event especially meaningful is the level of collaboration behind it. We are bringing together health providers, community organizations, and student-led initiatives to create a resource hub that meets families where they are. Supporting the next generation of leaders in service is also a core part of our mission, and seeing students step forward in such a meaningful way has been incredibly powerful.”

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 514 NW 77th St. in Miami.
