The race for Miami Gardens City Council Seat 2 has reached a major milestone as candidate Paul Wilson announced he has officially qualified to appear on the ballot. Wilson, a longtime educator and community advocate, shared the news via social media, signaling a shift from the campaign’s launch phase to the heat of the election season.
“Family, yesterday morning, we became officially qualified to run for Miami Gardens City Council,” Wilson shared with his followers online. “This is our moment to protect our progress and build the future our city deserves. Let’s get to work.”
The qualification follows a high-energy campaign kickoff first reported by Hy-Lo News in February. During that launch event at Oasis, Wilson introduced the community to his “P4P” (Paul for Progress) movement.
Wilson’s platform is built on three core pillars: unity, opportunity, and accountability. While Wilson is the son of U.S. Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, he has emphasized that his candidacy is defined by his own 25-year career as an educator and mentor.
“God had work for me to do first,” Wilson told Hy-Lo News regarding the timing of his run. “He had work for me to do, pouring into my sons, mentoring the youth throughout this community… serving as an educator for a quarter of a century.”
Wilson has framed his run as a commitment to the long-term stability of Miami Gardens. He told supporters at his launch that his goal is to ensure the city remains a “fantastic” place for future generations.
“This is about legacy. This isn’t about me. This is about us,” Wilson stated. “I want to make sure that we are elevating and taking it to the next level… for your children and your grandchildren.”
Supporters have already flooded Wilson’s recent announcement with enthusiasm, with comments like “LET’S GOOOOOOOOO” and “Grind time Team!!” reflecting the grassroots momentum of the P4P campaign.
