The energy at Oasis was electric on Tuesday night as Paul Wilson, a long-time Miami Gardens resident and educator, officially entered the race for Miami Gardens City Council Seat 2.
Addressing a standing-room-only crowd of supporters, community leaders, and family, Wilson—the son of U.S. Congresswoman Frederica Wilson—launched what he is calling the “P4P” (Paul for Progress) movement. His platform centers on a triad of core values: unity, opportunity, and accountability.
“This room was filled with community members, leaders, public servants, folks from all walks of life here tonight to stand with me and walk with me as we kick off the P4P movement in the city,” Wilson stated.
While Wilson comes from a prominent political lineage, he emphasized that his decision to run now is rooted in a personal calling and a career spent serving the community from the ground up. Having served as an educator for 25 years, Wilson views this transition into City Hall as a natural extension of his work with the youth.
“For me, it’s all about God’s time,” Wilson explained when asked about the timing of his campaign. “God had work for me to do first. He had work for me to do, pouring into my sons, mentoring the youth throughout this community… serving as an educator for a quarter of a century.”
Wilson’s message to the voters of Miami Gardens is clear: his candidacy is less about individual ambition and more about the long-term health of the city. He expressed a desire to elevate Miami Gardens, ensuring it remains a “fantastic city” for generations to come.
“This is about legacy. This isn’t about me. This is about us. This is about our futures, our families, and of course, our fantastic city,” Wilson said. “I want to make sure that we are elevating and taking it to the next level… for your children and your grandchildren and your grandchildren’s children.”
The campaign is officially in high gear, and Wilson is inviting residents to learn more about his platform and vision for the city’s future. Learn more about his platform at paulforprogress.com or @PaulForProgress on all social media platforms.
