15-year-old advocate and nonprofit founder will help represent more than 250,000 students across Broward County Public Schools
A South Florida teen known for turning student concerns into action is stepping into a new leadership role at one of the largest school districts in the country.
Mikyle J. Sukoo, 15, has been elected Alternate Student Advisor to the Broward County School Board for the 2026–2027 school year. In the role, he will work alongside district leadership and board members to help represent and advocate for more than 250,000 students across Broward County Public Schools.
Sukoo’s appointment positions him as a key voice for students on major educational issues, ensuring their perspectives are included in conversations around policy, school climate, and academic experiences.

A student leader and youth advocate based in South Florida, Sukoo has built a reputation over the past two years for organizing his peers and pushing for tangible changes within the school system.
He first gained widespread attention after launching a student-led campaign advocating for students to be allowed to use their phones during lunch. The effort, which gathered thousands of signatures, ultimately contributed to policy changes impacting students across the district.
Since then, Sukoo has continued to speak out on issues affecting students’ day-to-day experiences, including school scheduling, academic workload, and the need for stronger student representation in district decision-making.
His work has also earned him regional recognition. Sukoo was named a 2026 MLK Youth Trailblazer Award recipient at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Festival, an honor recognizing young leaders who exemplify service, community engagement, and social impact. Organizers cited his advocacy efforts, volunteer service, and commitment to uplifting his peers as key reasons for the recognition.

Beyond his work in schools, Sukoo is also the founder of a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young people to use their voices to create change. Through the initiative, he promotes civic engagement, leadership development, and youth-led advocacy efforts across the community.
As he prepares to step into his new role, Sukoo says his focus is clear: making sure students are heard.
“I’m extremely grateful and honored to have been elected as the Alternate Student Advisor to the Broward County School Board,” Sukoo said. “This is more than just a title to me—it’s an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students across the district.”
He added, “I’m committed to using my voice to advocate for student needs, address challenges head-on, and work toward solutions that create a stronger, more supportive learning environment for everyone.”
Sukoo will serve alongside Student Advisor Lily Reid, with both working to represent the district’s diverse student body.
“I see this role as a chance not only to lead but to inspire others to believe that their ideas and perspectives matter,” Sukoo said. “Positive change is possible when students are empowered to speak up.”
His election signals a growing shift toward youth-driven advocacy in South Florida, where students are increasingly organizing, mobilizing, and influencing the policies that shape their education.
