BLK Room Project, in partnership with music mogul and entrepreneur Rick Ross and Miami Gardens Councilman Reggie Leon, will host a free, community-centered HIV testing pop-up on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 4 PM to 6 PM at Rick Ross’ Checkers, located in the heart of Miami Gardens.
The event aims to normalize HIV testing and increase awareness around sexual health by meeting the community where they are, through a familiar neighborhood space, trusted voices and cultural connection. Supported by AHF (AIDS Healthcare Foundation), testing will be confidential, fast and free for attendees.
To create an inviting atmosphere, the activation will feature a live DJ, food gift cards while supplies last and on-site engagement with local advocates and health professionals. The experience serves as a prelude to Risky, A Dinner Conversation, an invite-only program taking place the following evening, designed to bring influencers, advocates and community leaders together for open dialogue about sexual wellness and HIV prevention.
“We’re proud to bring this initiative to a space that represents our culture and the city,” said Chianna Collins, CEO and Project Director for the Blk Room Project, in a press statement. “Health equity starts with awareness and awareness starts with access.”
Miami-Dade County continues to face one of the highest HIV rates in the nation, with Black residents disproportionately impacted. By positioning HIV testing in a familiar, stigma-free environment, BLK Room Project and its partners aim to transform how the community approaches prevention, wellness and empowerment.
“This is how public health should feel, accessible, trusted and in tune with the community,” said Miami Gardens Councilman Reggie Leon in a press release. “When local businesses, artists and civic leaders unite for the people, we build awareness that saves lives.”
