Reggae Legend Beres Hammond Receives Lifetime Achievement Award from Island SPACE Caribbean Museum

Reggae legend Beres Hammond was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from Island SPACE Caribbean Museum. The presentation took place Sunday, August 31, just ahead of Hammond’s annual performance at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Island SPACE Executive Director and Co-Founder Calibe Thompson, joined by board members Christina Brown and Juli-Anne Lee, presented the award in a private ceremony near the venue’s green rooms before Hammond took the stage. The museum usually reserves the honor for its annual Reggae Genealogy Music Festival, but this year, organizers seized the opportunity to recognize Hammond while he was in town and surrounded by the anticipation of devoted fans.

The ceremony was made possible through coordination with the Broward Center and VP Records, longtime partners of Island SPACE. In her remarks, Thompson praised Hammond for his decades of hitmaking, unforgettable live performances, and his role as one of reggae’s most beloved voices.

Hammond accepted the honor with his trademark humility and warmth. Photos from the ceremony captured the joy of the moment, including the presence of Tamarac Commissioner Morey Wright, a supporter of Island SPACE, who joined in the celebration.

Earlier this year, reggae great Ken Boothe was also recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award, further cementing Island SPACE’s commitment to honoring the legends of the genre.

Fans won’t have to wait long for the next major celebration. Island SPACE will host its annual Reggae Genealogy on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Volunteer Park in Plantation. Next year’s theme, Lights, Camera, Reggae!, will explore reggae’s influence in film and television while spotlighting the genre’s greatest contributors and cultural impact.
