Orange Blossom Classic 2025 Brings HBCU Pride, Star Power, and a Nail-Biting Finish

The 2025 Orange Blossom Classic returned to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens on Sunday, August 31, delivering a weekend full of HBCU pride, community celebration, and unforgettable moments both on and off the field.

Festivities kicked off the day before the big game at a Welcome Reception and Kickoff Luncheon on Saturday, August 30, hosted by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Oliver Gilbert at Jungle Island. The keynote address was delivered by actress and Howard University alumna Wendy Raquel Robinson, who reflected on how her time at Howard shaped her career and inspired her to mentor the next generation of artists.

On game day, the excitement was felt well before kickoff. Over 22,000 supporters from both Howard University and Florida A&M University (FAMU) showed up in full spirit, dressing in their schools’ colors—orange and green for FAMU and blue and red for Howard—while tailgating and enjoying the vibrant Fan Fest. The crowd was hyped up by live performances from South Florida favorites Major Nine and Ball Greezy, who brought high energy to the celebration.

One of the standout moments came when Miami Gardens Councilman Reggie Leon led a tribute to the Divine Nine fraternities and sororities. Leaders from each organization, including the international presidents, were recognized for their cultural and community impact.

When it came time for football, the matchup was just as exciting as the festivities. The two HBCU powerhouses battled it out in a defensive showdown that came down to the wire. In the end, Howard edged out FAMU with a tight 10-9 victory, sending Bison fans into celebration mode after a nail-biting finish.

With its mix of cultural pride, entertainment, and competition, this year’s Orange Blossom Classic reinforced why the event remains a staple in South Florida’s Black community. The anticipation is already building for what’s to come at next year’s showdown.
