Miami’s Third Horizon Relaunches Anansi TV to Spotlight Caribbean and Diaspora Filmmakers

Miami-based filmmaking collective Third Horizon is (re)launching Anansi TV, an online platform dedicated to showcasing films by Caribbean and diaspora artists. The curated collection officially goes live on September 2, offering global audiences access to cinema that “remembers,” centering stories of Black, Brown, Indigenous, and Global South communities.

A natural extension of the Third Horizon Film Festival—which MovieMaker Magazine has twice named one of the “25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World”—Anansi TV continues the organization’s mission of championing independent films that are politically resonant and formally bold.

“These stories were never meant to pass through once and disappear—they were made to live on, to be returned to again and again,” said Romola Lucas, Executive Director of Third Horizon, in a press release. “With the (re)launch of Anansi TV, we’re honored to be stewards of this collection and to offer a space where anyone, anywhere, can sit with the richness of Caribbean cinema.”

The platform features a range of films, from fiction and non-fiction features to short films and mockumentaries, including:

  • Ouvertures (Haiti/UK/France), a non-fiction feature exploring Toussaint Louverture’s revolutionary legacy.
  • The Sweetest Mango (Antigua & Barbuda), the island nation’s first feature-length romantic comedy.
  • Ca(r)milla (Trinidad & Tobago), a mockumentary short blending folklore, vampirism, and Caribbean soil.
  • El Deseo de los Lobos el Rebaño del Señor (Dominican Republic), a fiction short following a woman navigating abuse and newfound miraculous powers.

In addition to streaming access, Anansi TV offers licensing for educators, broadcasters, and curators, ensuring these stories can reach classrooms, festivals, and institutions worldwide. The relaunch was supported by the John S. & James L. Knight Foundation through the Knight Art + Tech Expansion Grant.

With its Miami base, Anansi TV positions the city as a hub for Caribbean and diaspora storytelling, offering both filmmakers and audiences a platform to witness, honor, and sustain vital cinematic voices.
