City of Miami Launches Small Business Grant Program for Underserved District 5 Areas

Small business owners in certain parts of Miami’s District 5 now have a new opportunity to access funding to grow and improve their operations.

City of Miami Chairwoman and District 5 Commissioner Christine King has announced the launch of the Small Business Grant Program, which offers qualifying entrepreneurs up to $10,000 for growth, property improvements, technology, and operational upgrades.

The program is designed for businesses in District 5 neighborhoods that are not served by the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (SEOPW CRA) or the Little Haiti Revitalization Trust, as those entities already provide their own small business funding.

“Small businesses are the heartbeat of our community,” King said. “This grant ensures they have the tools they need to grow and succeed, especially in neighborhoods that have historically been overlooked.”

To qualify, businesses must:

  • Have been registered in Florida before Jan. 1, 2023
  • Hold a City of Miami Certificate of Use and a current Business Tax Receipt
  • Operate within District 5, outside Overtown and Little Haiti

Funds can be used for projects like signage, lighting, ADA upgrades, painting, roof repairs, storefront restoration, or operational needs like technology, equipment, marketing, and up to three months of past lease payments.

Applications are reviewed on a first-complete, first-served basis and must be submitted by email or in person at the District 5 Liberty City office, Tuesday–Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (excluding holidays).

Applications and program manuals are available at all District 5 offices, including Liberty City, Model City, Wynwood/Edgewater, Upper East Side, and others.

For more information, contact the Liberty City District 5 Office at 305-960-4920 or visit one of the office locations during business hours.
