South Florida families are invited to step into a world of Caribbean folklore, laughter, and learning at the 2025 Anancy Festival, happening Saturday, June 28 at the Island SPACE Caribbean Museum in Plantation. The free, family-friendly event runs from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM and promises an afternoon packed with storytelling, culture, and interactive fun.
Anchored in the rich oral traditions of the Caribbean, the festival celebrates the legendary character Anancy—the mischievous spider known for using his wit to outsmart stronger opponents. His stories, rooted in West African folklore and passed down through generations across the Caribbean, teach kids valuable lessons about resilience, cleverness, and justice.
But this festival is more than just storytime. It’s a full-on cultural experience that invites children and families of all backgrounds to explore the vibrant traditions of the Caribbean through music, art, games, and performance.

Here’s what festivalgoers can look forward to:
- Storytelling Sessions featuring folk tales from across the Caribbean, highlighting not just Anancy, but other beloved characters like Ti Malice and Tonton Bouki (Haiti), Juan Bobo (Puerto Rico), and Papa Bois (Saint Lucia, Dominica, and Trinidad and Tobago).
- Cultural Talent Showcase where kids can perform poems, songs, or dances.
- Live Appearances by Mr. and Mrs. Anancy—bringing magical mischief to life.
- Book Fair & Meet-the-Author moments with Caribbean children’s book writers.
- Junior Carnival Fashion Show spotlighting dazzling costumes from upcoming Carnival bands, followed by a kid-friendly dance party.
- Hands-On Crafts to create take-home souvenirs.
- Traditional Caribbean Ring Games for all ages to enjoy.
- Guided Museum Tours of the Island SPACE exhibit hall, showcasing Caribbean history and heritage.
Presented in partnership with Jamaicans.com, the Anancy Festival is a celebration of culture and community with something for everyone—whether you grew up on Anancy stories or are hearing them for the first time. Free tickets are available now at islandspacefl.org/anancy25.
