If you’ve been thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, this weekend may be the perfect time to make it happen. On Saturday, June 28, 2025, Broward County Animal Care is teaming up with Petco Love, local shelters, and Broward County Parks and Recreation to host the Petco Love Florida MEGA Adoption Event—a statewide push to find homes for 2,000 pets across Florida.
Taking place at Tree Tops Park in Davie from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the event will feature 60 adoptable dogs from Broward County Animal Care, the Humane Society of Broward County, the Humane Society of Greater Miami, and Miami-Dade Animal Services. Adoption fees are completely waived, though pet registration fees will still apply for Broward residents.
“Our shelters are at a tipping point,” said Doug Brightwell, Director of Broward County Animal Care, in a press release. “This event is a powerful opportunity to relieve overwhelmed shelters and give deserving pets a second chance. With community support, we can make a major difference.”
During last year’s mega adoption event, nearly 2,000 animals were adopted across the state. This year, almost 50 organizations in 31 counties are participating, with all pets spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations.
Aside from adopting, families can also enjoy the scenic Tree Tops Park, which welcomes leashed pets. “Parks and pets both help reduce stress and promote healthy lifestyles,” said Dan West, Director of Broward County Parks and Recreation, in a press release. “We encourage new pet parents to visit our regional parks and leash-free dog parks after they adopt.”
For those adopting in Broward, the registration fee is $25 for microchipped pets and $55 for those without. The park’s usual $3 weekend entrance fee per vehicle will also apply.
Petco Love President Susanne Kogut described the event as more than just an adoption drive: “It’s about creating thousands of new beginnings filled with hope, healing, and unconditional love.”
