City of Miami Senior Rental Assistance Program to Reopen for New Applications from Seniors who Rent in District Five

AD: Baptist Health

The City of Miami Senior Rental Assistance Program (SRAP) will open for new applications on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 9 am, for senior renters who meet program guidelines and live in District Five only. Residents can confirm if they live in District Five of the City of Miami by checking their current address online at https://gis.miamigov.com/miamizoning/index.html (select the District tab). Paper applications will be accepted through Monday, August 5, 2024, at 5 pm, as indicated on the application.

The SRAP, established by the City of Miami Commission, aims to support low-income senior renters (ages 62 and up) residing in the City, who are facing financial strain and are vulnerable to annual rental increases. Qualifying households may receive up to $500 per month for rental expenses based on need, for a duration of up to one year. Eligibility criteria include, but are not limited to: the senior applicant’s household income must be 50 percent of the area median income (AMI) or below; monthly rental costs must exceed 30 percent of their household income; rent payments must be current, and there must be an executed lease/rental agreement.

Starting Monday, July 15, paper applications will be available at Miami City Hall, 3500 Pan American Drive, and all City of Miami District 5 Offices. Interested individuals can call 311 for the addresses of those locations where applications will be available. Submission of an application does not guarantee eligibility or assistance. This program cannot assist seniors residing in public housing or those already enrolled in a federally funded rental assistance program (Section 8, Sec. 202, VASH, etc.).

The order of application submission (first or last day of the application period) does not impact eligibility. After the application period closes, preliminary eligibility will be assessed, and ineligible applications will be disqualified, including any received from renters in other Districts. A random, computerized lottery will be held in August to establish a new District 5 list of eligible seniors, setting the numerical order in which eligible applications will be processed.

This program is made possible, in part, with federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. The program is contingent on available funding and can close at any time. For general information, visit www.miamigov.com/SRAP.
