City of Miami Announces Major Upgrades to Little Haiti Cultural Complex, Celebrating Afro-Caribbean Heritage

AD: Baptist Health

The City of Miami recently announced a series of transformative upgrades at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex, reaffirming its commitment to celebrate and preserve Afro-Caribbean cultures, inspire future leaders, and harness arts and culture for community empowerment.

Key initiatives include:

  • New HVAC system installation: Scheduled for September 2024
  • Replacement of the historic Caribbean Marketplace roof: Preserving its iconic integrity.
  • Water intrusion mitigation: Safeguarding against potential damage to make the center more resilient
  • Drainage improvements: Enhancing overall site infrastructure
  • Dance floor enhancements: Upgrading facilities to expand the diverse dance program offerings.
  • Renovations to Caribbean Marketplace vendor spaces: Supporting local artisans
  • Audio-visual upgrades for the Little Haiti Theatre: Enhancing event quality for in-house programs and future rentals

During these projects, temporary HVAC units have been installed, and emergency roof leak repairs are ongoing. These efforts are part of a comprehensive initiative by the City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department to transform the complex into a premier event destination.

Under the Reimagine Parks System Master Plan, unanimously approved by the City Commission in July 2023, the Parks and Recreation Department conducted a comprehensive needs survey of visitors to the Little Haiti Cultural Complex. Future community meetings, in collaboration with Chairwoman Christine King’s office, will finalize the strategic plan for the center. This plan will include a capital investment strategy to fund improvements identified through community feedback.

The Little Haiti Cultural Complex stands as a pillar of pride for the Little Haiti community,” said Chairwoman and District 5 Commissioner Christine King in a press release. “The preservation of the LHCC is a priority of my office as well as the City’s administration. I am confident that the community and visitors will continue to enjoy this historical complex for years to come.”

The City Administration is committed to providing monthly progress updates on capital improvements during the Little Haiti Revitalization Trust meetings, ensuring transparency and community involvement every step of the way.
