The City of Miami Gardens Councilman Robert Stephens III and Advancing Sickle Advocacy Project, Inc. (ASAP), will hold “Community Voices Unite: A Town Hall Series for Sickle Cell Advocacy” on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 6 pm.
This event will be moderated by Dr. Adrian N. Carter, PhD., with a panel of passionate advocates dedicated to educating, raising awareness, empowering, and mobilizing our community in pursuit of positive change for individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease. The event will feature discussions by Vertex and Bluebird Bio companies about two milestone treatments approved by the FDA, Casgevy and Lyfgenia. Additional topics on the agenda include gene therapy, clinical trials, bone marrow transplants, advocacy, and personal stories.
The guest panelists are State Senator Shervin Jones, State Representative Felicia Robinson, Dr. Edward Ziga, University of Miami Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Blood, Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy, Dr. Thomas Harrington, University of Miami Adult Hematology. Additional panelists participating in the event are Dr. Eboni Davis, DNP; Sickle Cell Warriors Pastor Josiah Frierson, Anais Fernandez; Kristen John, Kay-Diene Robinson.
This Town Hall platform, which is sponsored by bluebird bio, Fulcrum Therapeutics, Pfizer, and Vertex, allows open dialogue, discussion, and collective action to address pressing issues and advocate for meaningful initiatives for sickle cell warriors.
