Brother Lyle Muhammed, Executive Director of The Cirlce of Brotherhood, Honored at The White House as One of 31 Graduates from the University of Chicago Community Violence Intervention Leadership Academy

On February 9th, Vice President Harris hosted a ceremony at The White House honoring 31 graduates of the inaugural class of trainees from the University of Chicago Crime Lab’s Community Violence Intervention Academy. Brother Lyle Muhammad, Executive Director of the Circle of Brotherhood based in Miami, was one of the 31 graduates honored.

The ceremony was part of a series of events focused on combatting gun violence in the Black community as President Biden pushes Congress to do more on gun control. The events, organized by the newly created White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, kicked off with a nationwide virtual meeting with Black leaders on tackling gun violence in their communities. Biden delivered a message recognizing the week as “Community Violence Awareness Week.”

Following the ceremony, Brother Muhammed stopped by 103.5 The Beat Miami to share his experience at the academy and to talk about what he plans to bring to the community from what he learned during his time as a trainee.

“Anybody in South Florida that does anything against gun violence, you were with me in that White House,” said Brother Lyle’s during his interview with radio vet Papa Keith. Keith himself is also known in the community for his dedication to fighting against gun violence, mainly through his annual People Matter Fest event which calls for a 24 hour cease fire.

Congratulations to Brother Lyle and the Brotherhood for their commitment to making South Florida a better, safer place for all.
