6 Year-Old Girl from Miami Fights off Kidnapper and Helps Put Him Behind Bars

6 Year-Old Hometown Hero is celebrated by community for her bravery

A 6-year-old girl from Miami is a real-life superhero. Ah’lyric is being praised for protecting herself against a kidnapper and she’s helped the police to put him behind bars.

According to WPLG local 10 news, on July 6 in Northwest Miami-Dade the 6-year-old was outside playing with her sisters when 32-year-old, Leonardo Venegas, pulled up outside of her apartment complex and attempted to snatch the little girl. However, the criminal was in for an unsuspected fight.

“I’m proud of her because many kids don’t know what to do when they’re in that predicament,” Ah’lyric’s mother, Teshia McGill, told WSVN Channel 7 News.

Little Ah’lyric protected herself by biting him and screaming to get other people’s attention– tactics she learned from her mother to do if a stranger tries to kidnap her. After biting him, the alleged kidnapper slapped the little girl and ran towards the front of the apartment complex. However, Ah’lyric and the complex’s surveillance cameras had a clear view of the attacker.

Thanks to the cameras capturing the attacker’s license plate information, police were able to swiftly apprehend the suspect. Leonardo Venegas was arrested on Sunday in Miami-Dade County and was charged with kidnapping and child abuse, according to Miami-Dade County jail records.

Following the arrest of Venegas, the Miami Police Department later gifted little Ah-lyric with a new bicycle, a helmet and a doll as a ‘Thank You’ for her bravery and present-mindedness during the attempted attack.
