The Sigma Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated is accepting applications for the Talent Hunt Competition. Each year the fraternity chapter seeks South Florida High school students who are gifted in performing arts to compete for a $500 scholarship. Students who sing, dance, play an instrument or perform poetry can participate in the Talent Hunt. All contestants will perform in front of a panel of judges and a live audience on Saturday, March 31, at Carol City High school in Miami Gardens. The winner of the Talent Hunt will earn $500 and have the chance to compete against Talent Hunt winners in the state of Florida. Applications for the Talent Hunt can be submitted on https://www.miamisaques.com. The deadline for all applicants is Tuesday, February 28th.

The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated was founded on November 17, 1911, at Howard University in Washington, D.C. The founders were three Howard University undergraduates, — Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper, and Frank Coleman. Joining them was their faculty adviser, Dr. Ernest Everett Just. From the initials of the greek phrase meaning, “friendship is essential to the soul,” the name Omega Psi Phi was derived. That phrase was selected as the motto. Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift were adopted as Cardinal Principles.

The Sigma Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated was chartered on March 13, 1939, in Miami, FL. The charter was organized by fourteen young professional men with ideals and attainments similar to those of the Fraternity’s founders. Sigma Alpha is the oldest graduate chapter in South Florida, serving the local community for over 83 years.
