Broward County Public Schools Chairwoman Dr. Rosalind Osgood defeated legal advocate Terri Ann Williams Edden in the Democratic Primary race for State Senate District 33 last night.
Senate District 33 includes Margate, Pompano Beach, Tamarac, North Lauderdale, Sunrise, Lauderhill, Lauderdale Lakes, Oakland Park, Plantation, and parts of Fort Lauderdale.
Democrat Perry Thurston Jr. previously represented the district before he resigned to run for the 30th Congressional District seat.
Osgood is currently the only Black school board member for Broward County. However, she submitted her resignation in November, which will take effect in March, just in time for the special election. Osgood will be up against Republican Joseph Carter on March 8.
Osgood is the first female preacher in the history of the New Mount Olive Baptist Church, one of the oldest and largest Black churches in Broward, located in the historic Sistrunk neighborhood.
