Urban Golf Weekend Puts Business, Culture and Community at the Center of the Game

Golf is taking center stage in Miami Beach this Labor Day weekend, but Urban Golf Weekend is making it clear the game is about much more than what happens on the course.

Urban Golf Weekend Powered by LEXUS returns Sept. 3-7, bringing hundreds of entrepreneurs, executives, athletes, entertainers, creatives and golfers to the Eden Roc Miami Beach and Miami Beach Golf Club for five days of golf, networking, wellness, entertainment and community programming.

Now in its evolution from a charitable golf tournament into a national multicultural golf and lifestyle experience, the event aims to connect attendees with the business, career and economic opportunities tied to the sport.

Actor Woody McClain, actor and former NFL player Isaac Keys, and Mielle Organics founders Melvin and Monique Rodriguez are among this year’s featured speakers. The lineup also includes entrepreneurs, executives, investors and golf innovators including Ayiko Broyard of Walton Isaacson, David Leeks, Steve Haas, Tori James, Cam Murphy, Joi Hunt, Josiah Graham, Olajuwon Ajanaku, Cedric Nash, Armando Pantoja and Dr. Wilton Triggs.

Programming throughout the weekend will focus on topics including expanding access to golf, women in the sport, entrepreneurship, generational wealth, health and leadership, breaking barriers and the transition from athlete to entrepreneur.

The weekend’s centerpiece for South Florida’s business community will be the UGW Business & Lifestyle Expo, taking place Sept. 3-4 at Eden Roc Miami Beach.

The expo is open to entrepreneurs, professionals and local business owners, and complimentary admission is available for those who RSVP. Attendees do not have to play golf to participate.

The marketplace will feature golf brands such as Eastside Golf, Blackballed Golf, Smart Golf Society, Lbow Golf, Fairway Golf, Swing Back V Golf, Golf Applied Insurance, Charity Golf Company and Dixon Golf, alongside businesses representing fashion, wellness, media, beauty, technology and financial services.

The broader goal is to highlight the economic ecosystem surrounding golf, including the people building brands, launching companies, creating jobs and pursuing opportunities connected to the sport.

“Golf has always been about more than the game. It is where relationships are built, business is conducted, and opportunities are created,” said Clifton Addison, founder of Urban Golf Weekend and Urban Golf Foundation, Inc. “Urban Golf Weekend ensures our communities are represented not only on the fairway but across the economic ecosystem surrounding the sport.”

LEXUS is serving as the event’s title sponsor, with Melanin Money as presenting sponsor. Witherspoon Law Group and The Dr. Wilton Triggs Foundation are platinum sponsors, while FEAM Aero is a gold sponsor.

The event also carries a philanthropic component through the Urban Golf Foundation, which was established by Addison, a two-time Florida A&M University graduate. The organization uses golf as a vehicle for youth development, education, mentorship, workforce development and economic opportunity.

Over the past four years, Urban Golf Weekend and the Urban Golf Foundation have invested more than $50,000 in HBCU golf scholarships and youth initiatives, helping introduce young people to the sport while connecting them with mentors, business leaders and potential career pathways.

With its Miami Beach return, Urban Golf Weekend is positioning golf as a meeting point for culture and commerce, while creating space for communities that have historically had less representation in the sport and its surrounding industries.

Weekend registration packages are available through the Urban Golf Weekend website. South Florida entrepreneurs and business owners interested in the UGW Business & Lifestyle Expo can also RSVP for complimentary admission.
