Award-Winning ‘You Look Fine’ Documentary Coming to South Florida for Free Sickle Cell Community Screening

South Florida’s sickle cell community will have an opportunity to see its experiences reflected on screen when the award-winning documentary You Look Fine comes to Miami Gardens later this month.

The Advancing Sickle Cell Advocacy Project, Inc. (ASAP) is partnering with Better Exists to host a free community screening of the film Friday, Aug. 29, at the Lou Rawls Center for the Performing Arts at Florida Memorial University.

Created by J. Snow, You Look Fine explores the often-invisible realities of living with sickle cell disease, including the pain and health challenges that may not always be visible to others.

The screening is expected to bring together people living with sickle cell disease, caregivers, families, health care professionals, advocates and supporters for an evening focused on awareness, representation and community.

“This screening is more than an opportunity to watch a film, it is an opportunity for our community to see their experiences represented and to come together in a space where they feel seen, heard, and supported,” ASAP President Kemba O. Gosier said in a news release. “J. Snow has used his platform and his story to bring greater visibility to sickle cell disease, and ASAP is honored to help bring You Look Fine to South Florida.”

Snow has previously connected with the local sickle cell community as the headliner for ASAP’s 10-Year Anniversary Celebration. The organization also supported him at the film’s Slamdance Los Angeles screening.

For ASAP, bringing the film to South Florida is another opportunity to amplify the experiences of people living with sickle cell disease while creating space for community connection.

The screening is free, but registration is required. Community members can register through Eventbrite.

The South Florida screening is presented by Better Exists in partnership with ASAP and powered by Pfizer.
