Island SPACE’s HERS Celebration Returns Aug. 29 With New Experiences Honoring Caribbean Women

Caribbean women making an impact across South Florida will be recognized later this summer as Island SPACE Caribbean Museum brings back its annual HERS — Honoring Exceptionally Regal Sisters celebration.

The fourth annual event is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center, 8601 W. Commercial Blvd. Organizers say the celebration will feature an afternoon dedicated to honoring Caribbean women whose work in business, public service, the arts and community leadership has made a lasting impact throughout South Florida and the Caribbean diaspora.

In addition to the honoree recognition ceremony, attendees can expect live entertainment, steelpan music, an artisan marketplace, networking opportunities and cultural programming.

New this year is the Caribbean Culinary Café, which will offer small plates inspired by several Caribbean islands while highlighting the stories and traditions behind the cuisine. The event will also debut the Queen’s Court, a premium $65 experience that includes general admission along with access to a private hospitality space featuring wellness and beauty offerings.

A featured fireside conversation, Same Author, New Chapter, will explore themes of personal growth, boundaries and purpose in women’s lives.

“HERS gives Caribbean women a celebration that matches the scale of their influence,” Island SPACE Caribbean Museum Executive Director Calibe Thompson said in a press statement. “It gives the community an opportunity to applaud their achievements, enjoy one another and support the museum that tells our shared story throughout the year.”

Tamarac Commissioner Morey Wright Jr., whose office is supporting the event alongside the City of Tamarac and the Broward County Cultural Division, said HERS continues to celebrate women making a difference throughout the region.

“HERS celebrates the extraordinary women whose leadership, talent and service strengthen Tamarac and communities throughout South Florida,” Wright said in a press statement. “It is an honor to support an event that brings Caribbean women together to be recognized, celebrated and connected.”

Dr. Camille Edwards, the event’s project lead, said organizers have expanded this year’s experience for attendees.

“We are designing every part of HERS to feel thoughtful, lively and generous,” Edwards said in a press statement. “Guests can expect a polished experience that feels distinctly Caribbean.”

Early-bird tickets are $20, advance tickets are $30 and tickets purchased at the door will cost $40. The Queen’s Court experience is $65 and includes general admission. Guests are encouraged to attend in “Island Chic” attire.

Proceeds from the event will support Island SPACE Caribbean Museum’s exhibitions, educational programming, collections care and cultural initiatives throughout the year.
