Dear Neighbors,
Miami Gardens is entering a significant moment in its history.
With the announcement that Congresswoman Frederica Wilson is stepping away from Congress, our community begins a new chapter. Regardless of political affiliation or personal opinion, Congresswoman Wilson’s years of public service have left a lasting mark on our district, our county, and our nation.
As we look ahead, many individuals will undoubtedly step forward seeking the opportunity to represent our district in Washington. There will be spirited campaigns, passionate debates, and differing ideas about the future. That is a healthy part of our democratic process.
But during this season of transition, I believe there is something even more important than politics.
It is the future of our community.
For 35 years, I have proudly called Miami Gardens home. I have watched our city grow, overcome challenges, celebrate victories, and emerge as one of the most vibrant and diverse communities in South Florida. I have seen neighbors support neighbors during difficult times. I have witnessed residents come together to strengthen schools, churches, businesses, and community organizations. I have seen firsthand the resilience and determination that make Miami Gardens special.
Today, I encourage all residents to approach the coming decisions with wisdom, patience, and respect.
Do not allow division to overshadow our shared values.
Do not allow anger to replace understanding.
Do not allow rumors to replace facts.
Take the time to learn about the candidates. Listen carefully. Ask questions. Examine their record, their character, and their vision for the future. Consider who has demonstrated a genuine commitment to serving people and who has the ability to bring communities together to solve problems.
The decisions we make today will help shape the opportunities available to our children tomorrow. They will influence economic development, public safety, education, healthcare access, housing, and the overall quality of life for families throughout our district.
This is not simply about selecting a representative. It is about choosing a direction.
As residents of Miami Gardens, we have always been strongest when we stand together. Our diversity is our strength. Our culture is our strength. Our faith, our families, our businesses, our seniors, and our young people are the foundation upon which this community continues to grow.
Let us remember that progress is not achieved through conflict alone. It is achieved when good people come together with a shared purpose and a commitment to building a better future.
In the months ahead, I encourage every eligible resident to participate in the democratic process. Stay informed. Stay engaged. Vote. Most importantly, treat one another with dignity and respect, even when opinions differ.
The eyes of many will be on our district as this transition unfolds. Let us show them the very best of Miami Gardens.
Let us demonstrate that we can debate passionately while remaining united as a community.
Let us make our decisions peacefully and thoughtfully.
Let us choose hope over fear, unity over division, and progress over politics.
The future of Miami Gardens has always been bigger than any one person or any one election. It belongs to all of us.
Let us honor the past, embrace the present, and together build the future Miami Gardens deserves.
And if we remain focused on what unites us, I am confident that our best days are still ahead.
May God continue to bless you, your families, and the City of Miami Gardens.
