Miami-Dade School Board Member Dr. Steve Gallon III convened an education town hall on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Miami Norland Senior High School, bringing together educators, parents, administrators, and community stakeholders for a wide-ranging discussion on issues impacting Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
The town hall focused on several key topics affecting District 1 schools and the broader district, including school board policies advanced by Dr. Gallon, the implementation of the Schools of Hope Co-Location provision, attendance boundary considerations, and other policy matters shaping student access and school operations.
Dr. Gallon also outlined four guiding principles he said will be critical for District 1 schools as they navigate both current challenges and future changes: professionalism, performance, responsiveness, and relationships. According to Gallon, these constructs are intended to strengthen school culture, accountability, and trust between the district and the communities it serves.
Attendees were given opportunities to ask questions and raise concerns throughout the evening, with discussion reflecting a strong interest in student achievement, equitable access to quality education, and transparent decision-making. The audience included district and school administrators, teachers, parents, community leaders, and education advocates, underscoring the breadth of engagement around local education policy.
Emphasizing the role of public input, Dr. Gallon highlighted the importance of community dialogue in shaping school board decisions.
“Town halls like this are essential to ensuring that the voices of our educators, families, and community leaders are heard and reflected in the decisions we make,” Gallon said. “The participation and questions from those in attendance help inform how we move forward.”
The town hall is part of Gallon’s ongoing efforts to engage District 1 constituents and foster collaboration around policies impacting Miami-Dade County’s public schools.
