Miami Mayoral Race Heads to December Runoff, Meiner Wins in Miami Beach

Voters successfully navigated a crowded municipal election night on Tuesday, setting the stage for a high-stakes runoff in the City of Miami and delivering a definitive victory for the incumbent mayor of Miami Beach. Public safety and quality-of-life concerns dominated the campaign discourse across the county, reflecting the clear priorities of residents.

Miami Mayoral Race Heads to December Runoff

According to the Miami Herald, the fiercely contested, 13-candidate race for Miami Mayor is now headed for a runoff on December 9, 2025, as neither candidate secured more than 50% of the vote.

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins led the field and is set to face former Miami City Manager Emilio González in the final round.

Preliminary results showed Higgins leading the polls, while González secured the second spot for the runoff.

 Miami Beach Mayor Secures Re-Election

Incumbent Mayor Steven Meiner secured a second term in Miami Beach, narrowly defeating challenger Commissioner Kristen Rosen Gonzalez.

Meiner won with approximately 52% of the vote, a successful endorsement of his focus on public safety issues.

In the Miami Beach Commission races, incumbents also saw success, though one race heads to a runoff:

City of Miami Commission Sees Split Results
One City of Miami Commission seat was decided outright, while the other will be decided in the December 9 runoff.

  • District 5 Winner:Christine King (Re-elected)
  • District 3 Runoff: Frank Carollo vs. Rolando Escalona (December 9)
    • Rolando Escalona Contact: Rolando Escalona 
    • Note: Frank Carollo is noted in campaign reports to have an ultra-basic political committee website but relied heavily on local media for messaging.
