Florida Memorial University Partners with Miami HEAT to Launch New ‘FMU HEAT HYPE Band’

Florida Memorial University (FMU) has announced a new partnership with the Miami HEAT, officially forming the FMU HEAT HYPE Band—a collaboration that merges the energy of FMU’s marching band with the excitement of South Florida’s NBA team.

The new sound and spirit unit will perform at select Miami HEAT games and events throughout the basketball season, bringing FMU’s signature rhythm and flair to the arena experience. The partnership aims to spotlight the talent of FMU’s student musicians while enhancing the game-day atmosphere for fans.

“This partnership strikes a powerful chord between higher education and professional sports,” said Dr. Richard Beckford, Director of Bands at FMU. “Our student-musicians will amplify the game-day atmosphere while showcasing the talent and legacy of Florida Memorial University to fans across South Florida and beyond.”

The FMU HEAT HYPE Band represents The ROAR—FMU’s movement of Renewal, Opportunity, Advancement, and Relevance—by serving as musical ambassadors for both the university and the broader community. Through their performances, the band hopes to share FMU’s story of pride, resilience, and leadership beyond campus.

Together, Florida Memorial University and the Miami HEAT say they plan to keep the music playing loud for learning, leadership, and legacy in South Florida.
