On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ District 1 hosted its first town hall meeting of the 2025-2026 school year at Miami Carol City Senior High School, gathering educators, students, families, and community leaders to celebrate the progress happening across local schools.
The evening kicked off with a Principals’ Pre-Town Hall reception, where Miami Carol City’s Culinary Arts students prepared the catering. In recognition of their efforts, the program received a $500 donation to continue supporting student chefs.
Superintendent Dr. Jose Dotres, Commissioner Oliver Gilbert, and municipal leaders from Opa-locka, North Miami Beach, North Miami, and Miami Gardens joined the event, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in advancing education.
Two community partners were also recognized for their contributions to District 1 schools: Ten North Group, led by Dr. Willie Logan, and Wright Funeral Home, led by Terry Wright.
District leaders highlighted that 70% of District 1 schools are now rated “A” or “B,” a milestone that reflects years of progress and commitment. Still, officials stressed the work ahead to ensure all students have access to excellence.
“Together, we will continue building on this momentum to provide the best possible opportunities for our children,” said District 1 School Board Member Dr. Steve Gallon III in a press release.
