Supporters of Miami Northwestern Senior High School’s beloved varsity football coach Teddy Bridgewater are staging a protest today in front of the school at 5 p.m. to demand answers and accountability regarding his sudden suspension. The peaceful demonstration, dubbed “Slide for 5,” is being organized by students, parents, alumni, and community members who say Coach Teddy has been an irreplaceable figure in the lives of the youth he mentors and the school he proudly represents.
The protest comes on the heels of a growing online campaign to reinstate Bridgewater, with a Change.org petition surpassing 1,600 verified signatures and climbing. Posts circulating on social media have encouraged the Bull family to show up in numbers, urging supporters to bring signs, bullhorns, and even pots and pans to ensure their voices are heard. Organizers are calling for peaceful action but a loud presence, signaling their unwavering support for the coach who has become a symbol of pride for Miami Northwestern and the Liberty City community.
Yesterday, dozens of concerned citizens pulled up to the Miami-Dade School Board meeting hoping to address the matter publicly. Alumni, community leaders, and even current students attended the meeting prepared to speak on Bridgewater’s behalf and demand clarity on his suspension. However, they were left disappointed and frustrated when the board announced that they could not comment on the situation due to an ongoing investigation. This announcement only added to the community’s urgency and led to the planned protest for today.

Many see Coach Teddy not just as a former NFL player, but as a role model who returned to his hometown to invest in the next generation. His commitment to the Bulls program and his genuine connection with the youth have sparked a widespread movement across Miami-Dade and beyond. Supporters have launched a grassroots merchandise effort to raise awareness, with “Coach Teddy We Ready” shirts now available for pickup at the Shirt Trap, giving people a chance to wear their support proudly.
Online, posts under hashtags like #ReinstateTeddy and #CoachTeddyWeReady are filled with expressions of admiration and loyalty, encouraging everyone who loves the Bull Nation to unite and stand up. As one post said, “If we can pack a stadium, we can pack the front of the school.” Another declared, “Either you gone be a part of the solution or step aside.”
Whether it’s through petitions, t-shirts, or taking to the streets in peaceful protest, the Miami Northwestern community is making it clear: they want Coach Teddy back, and they’re not backing down until they get answers.
