Breaking the Radio Silence: Supa Cindy Speaks on Going From Victim to Survivor

For over 20 years, Supa Cindy has brought magic to South Florida’s airwaves—entertaining the culture with her unmistakable voice on iconic Hip-Hop stations like 99 Jamz. She got her break as an intern, turning passion into purpose. Thrown into the whirlwind world of celebrity, Supa Cindy’s realness made her a trusted bridge between artists and the audience—on and off air.
Beyond the mic, she’s built nonprofits, spoken at countless events, and remained a pillar in the community.

But what many didn’t know was that off-air, Supa Cindy was surviving abuse. In a powerful Instagram post, she shared that she was abused for eight years by her former boyfriend and manager—revealing she had “never spoken that out loud on a social media platform.” She described the October 28th attack that finally pushed her to call the police for the first time.

Since speaking out, the love has poured in—but Supa Cindy is using her story to empower others. By going public, she’s shedding light on a painful reality: Black women experience domestic violence at higher rates than any other group. The CDC reports that more than 4 in 10 Black women endure physical violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime.

Supa Cindy told Local 10, “I don’t have all the answers, but I’m hoping to inspire.” And it’s clear—she already has.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, call the Florida Domestic Violence Hotline: 800-500-1119
