Students in Lauderdale Lakes have more time to apply for a scholarship that’s rooted in local legacy and educational empowerment. The City of Lauderdale Lakes has officially extended the deadline for the Mayor Samuel S. Brown Scholarship Fund to Tuesday, April 30, 2025, at 5:00 PM.
Named in honor of the late Mayor Samuel S. Brown, the annual scholarship supports high school seniors and current college students who live in Lauderdale Lakes and are pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited college or vocational school.

The scholarship is open to students who show academic promise and a strong commitment to continuing their education. Applicants must have lived in Lauderdale Lakes for at least one year before and after applying and meet several other requirements, including:
- Proof of enrollment or acceptance at an accredited institution
- Official sealed school transcript
- Three letters of recommendation (including one from a faculty member)
- A 500-word essay
- Completion of all application sections
- Participation in an interview with the Scholarship Committee
