If you’re looking for a night filled with soul-stirring poetry, live music, and rich Caribbean culture, “Poetic Justice: The Artistic Experience” is the place to be. Happening Friday, April 26 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Island SPACE Caribbean Museum in Plantation, this powerful evening blends spoken word, art, and community in celebration of National Poetry Month.

Hosted by internationally recognized poet and entertainer Frankie Red Wordz, alongside poet and recording artist Mecca Grimo, Poetic Justice will feature a curated lineup of performances that explore identity, heritage, and healing through the arts. The event is presented with support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, one of the few federal agencies focused on supporting arts, culture, and education.

A Celebration of Literary Expression

A central part of the evening will be a spoken word segment featuring local youth and professional poets presenting letters to their younger and future selves. The segment aims to create a meaningful intergenerational dialogue and is produced in partnership with Permission to Succeed Education Center, Fe Pou Li – Children’s Hope Chest of Dreams, and Positivity Pays. Organizers say the goal is to amplify young voices and promote self-reflection through poetry.

Diverse Lineup of Poets and Performers

The event will feature a wide range of poets representing both South Florida and the Caribbean diaspora:

  • Ben Francois, a mental health therapist and speaker, will represent Haiti with poetry centered on emotional healing and resilience.
  • Mori Taiye, whose background includes Jamaican, African, French, and German heritage, is known for delivering layered, introspective work.
  • Just John, a National Poetry Slam Champion with roots in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, will present a tribute performance.
  • May Reign, Poet Laureate of Miami Gardens, will share work focused on empowerment and personal triumph.
  • Quick the Poet, a South Florida-based artist with international recognition, is known for performances that address racial justice and cultural identity.

Music and Cultural Exploration

Live music will be performed by The Tribe Band, with Eudora Sage on saxophone and Royce on keys. In addition to the performances, attendees will have access to the museum’s permanent Caribbean artifact collection and a special pop-up exhibit aligned with the themes of the evening.

Supporting Cultural Institutions

Island SPACE Caribbean Museum, a nonprofit organization, is committed to preserving and promoting Caribbean arts, culture, and history in South Florida and beyond. Organizers note that events like Poetic Justice are vital in maintaining creative spaces and sustaining cultural programming, especially as public funding for the arts becomes increasingly limited.
