Thousands Flock to Chief Hall Festival and Miami Central Rockets Alumni Picnic for a Day of School Pride, Community & Culture

South Florida’s high school pride was on full display today as two powerhouse schools — Miami Carol City Senior High and Miami Central Senior High — brought together thousands of alumni for a massive day of celebration, community, and legacy.

The Chief Hall Festival, the evolved version of the popular Chief Hall Picnic, returned bigger and better this year at Risco Park in Miami Gardens. Nearly ten years ago Miami Carol City alumnus and local business leader Freezy Prince, led the charge and helped the Chief Hall Picnic set the standard for high-energy, alumni-centered gatherings in Miami-Dade County. What started as a grassroots effort to unite former students of Carol City High has transformed into a full-scale festival experience that includes music, food vendors, school spirit gear, and generations of Carol City graduates repping their Orange and Black with pride.

What makes the Chiefs’ event unique is their larger-than-life alumni tents, which has morphed into a friendly competition of which class can has the best tent decorations. Chief alumni also raised the bar by having world-class artists perform at past picnics, including rappers JT, from City Girls, and Ball Greezy. Today, more than 10 artists took the stage, with Hip-Hop stars Major Nine and Plies headlining.

Over in Miami, the Miami Central Rockets also showed up and showed out with their own alumni picnic at Arcola Lakes Park. Known for their rich football legacy, school pride, and strong alumni network, the Rockets’ celebration promises an equally lit vibe with Green and White flooding the park.

Both picnics drew thousands of attendees, with DJs, local businesses, and food trucks all pulling up to keep the energy going.

These school-based gatherings are more than just a good time — they’re cultural touchstones for Black Miami, where old classmates reconnect, families join the fun, and school rivalries play out in the friendliest of ways.

The Chiefs and Rockets may have had their fair share of competition on the field, but today they stand united in showing the rest of the country how we do alumni events in the 305. Other urban core schools have their alumni picnics in the works including Miami Northwestern Senior High School and Miami Norland Senior High School.
