Chef JJ Johnson’s ‘The Cookout’ Returns to SOBEWFF, Showcasing the Culinary Heritage of the African Diaspora

The South Beach Wine & Food Festival® (SOBEWFF®) will once again spotlight the rich culinary traditions of the African Diaspora with the return of Chef JJ Johnson’s signature event, The Cookout. Set for Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Eden Roc Miami Beach, this year’s gathering promises a celebration of flavors, culture, and community.

Co-hosted by Johnson and media personality Angela Yee, host of Way Up with Angela Yee and former co-host of The Breakfast Club, The Cookout will feature a lineup of 12 esteemed chefs from across the country. Each chef will present a signature dish highlighting the diverse and bold flavors of African American and Caribbean cuisine. Attendees can expect a vibrant atmosphere, complemented by music from internationally acclaimed DJ Too Much, who will provide a soundtrack of soulful rhythms throughout the event.

“The Cookout is a gathering place—it’s not a barbecue,” said Chef JJ Johnson, founder of FIELDTRIP in New York City, in a press release. “It is where the culinary traditions of Black and Caribbean America come to life. At The Cookout at SOBEWFF, you will experience the robust rhythms and flavors of South Florida culture. It will be one of the best events you can attend all weekend!”

The outdoor event, set against the picturesque poolside backdrop of the Eden Roc, will bring together food lovers and culture enthusiasts alike for an immersive tasting experience.
